Cats are hunters by nature, but living indoors doesn’t always provide them with the same hunting opportunities that living outdoors might. That’s why it’s important to provide indoor cats with activities that stimulate them and encourage exercise.
Last May, I was introduced to a product that I absolutely fell in love with. Petmate sent over the Butterfly Ball by Jackson Galaxy for my cats to try out. This cat toy really is so beautiful, that I actually wouldn’t mind keeping it on my desk as a decoration of sorts.
The Butterfly Ball is a ball with faux grass, flowers, and a butterfly encapsulated inside of it. The ball is sensor activated and when a cat swats it, this triggers the butterfly inside to move around. It’s great exercise and stimulation for your cat.
The Butterfly Ball is weighted on the bottom which creates a fun wobble while keeping the butterfly up right. It has the sound and appearance of a living insect. If your cat is big on insect hunting, this may be worth looking into.
My youngest cat Roadside loves hunting bugs and he has thoroughly enjoyed playing with his Petmate Butterfly Ball. Unfortunately for him, our youngest girl got a hold of it and rolled on the hardwood floor a little bit too hard and it broke.
While the Butterfly Ball does seem to be built durable enough to withstand the swatting of many cat paws across the floor, it is not made to act as a bowling ball for a child. Hopefully Roadside will get a replacement Butterfly Ball one of these days.
Overall, the Butterfly Ball by Jackson Galaxy provides plenty of stimulation and exercise for indoor cats. Especially indoor cats who like to hunt. If you’re looking to add a fun cat toy to your kitty’s collection, you can check out the Butterfly Ball HERE.
