Playing with clipping mask of Photoshop CS3

In this tutorial will use a convenient tool that Photoshop will make available, clipping mask.

Begin by creating a simple written on two lines that fill our entire working area :

Holding Shift + Alt move with the active (V) create a copy of the level and position it directly below.

We repeat the process until we have filled the entire working area:

At this point going to unite all levels in a single level panel selecting them in "levels" and pressing Ctrl + E on your keyboard.

To obtain a more interesting effect, we may decide to add a little shading to our text.

Move on the level and do double-click options to get to the merger.

Once there we apply a drop shadow with an angle of 120 ° at a distance and size of 5px.

Slow down also opacity of shadow around 40% to avoid creating too much noise:

At this point going to have an image in our document.

We select an image that we like and put it directly in a level higher than our text.

Once done, we will create a clipping mask holding down alt and clicking with the mouse cursor exactly between two levels:

At this point we can immediately see the effect very interesting that you made.

The beauty of this method consists in absolute freedom of editing.

Just because position ourselves on the level containing the image to be able to place at will with the move (V), obtaining different effects from time to time.

At this point, we can try to create another layer of text placed above the levels achieved so far.

We create a written very large in order to attract attention.

This will apply a shadow written entirely identical to the one created for the previous text, followed by a glow inside (inner glow) white, opacity of 75% and blend normal mode:

At this point we will create a duplicate of level (Ctrl + J with the level selected) and take over the latter written.

Just as we did previously, we will position our cursor between this level and level with the inscription click great for holding down alt thus creating another clipping mask:

The effect is becoming more interesting! The only problem with this design is that the writing is still very little visible and meets the rest of design.

To remedy this problem, the first thing to do is change the color of the background layer, choosing a color that is well suited to the image.

In this case the color used must be a nice dark gray:

The effect is undoubtedly improved, but the text is still very unreadable.

We will carry on the level containing the written background and slow down opacity to 50% by the merger options.

Once that fact, will select the nuance and select a nuance that goes by selected color transparency:

At this point we will create a level directly above the level of gray background and, starting from the edges,

are going to create many small gradients in such a way as to focus attention on writing great playing a little on the effects of light.

This is the final result:

This simple effect can be used to create countless eye-catching design, and is particularly suitable for wallpapers and magazines.

It works even better using different images for clipping mask text background and the text big and you can apply it to your photographs.
