Super easy problem

Hi here's the scenario:

I start a new flash file. I draw a red square and convert it to button. I want a yellow square to appear under the red square when I mouse over the red square. So I do that. I preview the flash, and amazingly, when I mouse over the red square, the yellow square appears right below it - success! Not so. My problem is that if I mouse over below the red square, the yellow square appears - WHY? I don't want that to happen, I just want the yellow square to appear, when I mouse over the Red square, nothing should happen, should the mouse wander above it or below it. It seems like an easy thing to figure out but for the life of me I haven't got a clue!

Help?

Re: Super easy problem

Hi!
double click on the button... you will see tree states:
the first is the normal state: what you see without mousing on it..
the second is the over state: the state where you drew the yellow square.
the third state is the active area: the area where you want to enable the mouse.

in your case the second and third state are the same so the mouse is captured even in the yellow square area.
all you've got to do is to copy the first state in the last button state so the active area will be just the red square.

Re: Super easy problem

Thanks for the reply, however I finally figured it out, silly me. But now I have another problem. Now when I make the yellow square appear by mousing over the red square, the yellow square disappears as soon as a try to go over it with my mouse! I tried playing with the button functions but to no avail. how can I have it stay?

the attachment will show what i'm trying to do, a little flash menu. I have all the images and what not, but this file is just a simple examplle for me to figure out how to work it.

Re: Super easy problem

Hi!
you've got to work in a different way to realize what you want to do:
you can use buttons but you have to handle the clips you want to appear trough actionscript or in the timeline:
for example when you rollover on the first button the timelines moves to another frame where there are two buttons...
or when you rollover the button you can set visible the subitems that where set to visible=false..

it depends if you want to work with the timeline or trough code..
